Family Fun time

The monsoons are here, and more often than not, we find ourselves homebound due to the heavy rain lashing outside. While it can feel dreary at times, it also presents a wonderful opportunity to bond with your family.

They say good times happen over coffee — and this season, it truly can be a great time to enjoy laughter, conversation, and creativity with your loved ones. Here are two simple and fun activities that everyone in the family can join in on:

1. Make Your Own Photo Frame

Materials Needed:

  • 15 ice cream sticks

  • Glue

  • Stickers or glitter glue for decoration

  • A photograph of your choice

Instructions:

  • Arrange and glue the ice cream sticks to form the base of the frame (see reference image).

  • Leave a half-inch space from all sides and glue four sticks on top to form the upper layer.

  • Decorate the frame using stickers, glitter glue, or any decorative items you like.

  • Insert your picture in between — and voilà! You now have your very own handmade photo frame.

2. Create a Scrapbook

In today’s digital world, it's easy to forget to print out our photographs. But pictures speak a thousand words — so why keep them locked away on your phone or camera?

Let’s bring those memories to life with a themed scrapbook!

Suggested Themes:

  • Family vacations

  • Childhood memories

  • A timeline of your life so far

Materials Needed:

  • Handmade paper or plain sheets

  • Stickers, colored pens, ribbons, glitter, glue

  • Cardboard paper for the cover

  • Mementos (movie tickets, invites, party favors, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. Organize your materials – Sort through your photos and keepsakes.

  2. Design each page – Stick photos, add borders, and personalize with captions or stories. Include any small items from events (e.g., programs or wristbands).

  3. Assemble the scrapbook – Once your pages are ready, punch two holes in them.

  4. Create a cover – Use cardboard paper and decorate it to your liking. For an ethnic touch, consider covering it with zari cloth.

  5. Bind it – Tie the pages and cover together using ribbon or get it spiral-bound for a professional look.
