The Descendants

Starring: AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, and Carrie Underwood

Rich, complacent, and indulgent lawyer Matt King (George Clooney) wakes up one day to find his easy life turned upside down by unexpected challenges, responsibilities, and problems. His wife has met with an accident and is in a coma, and now he must be more than just the “backup parent” he had been to his two daughters—a vulnerable 10-year-old and a rebellious 17-year-old.

As a senior member of a large family in Hawaii, Matt is also being pressured by his cousins and relatives to sell the family’s valuable property. To make matters worse, he discovers that his wife had been cheating on him with a local real estate agent.

At the heart of the film lies Matt’s journey to reconnect with his daughters. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Kaui Hart Hemmings, The Descendants is a touching story about family relationships—reminding us that it’s never too late to start afresh and that forgiveness is essential for moving forward. The movie won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

A good watch for the whole family.
