Trust the Specialist

A powerful story of addiction, recovery, and hope—discover how surrendering to God brings healing, restoration, and freedom from bondage.

Trust the Specialist

During my college days, many of my friends who smoked decided to give up smoking during one of our night study sessions.

They all planned to quit by midnight, and a few of us who did not smoke were asked to supervise their decision. It was almost comical to watch them rushing to finish all their packets of cigarettes before midnight. By twelve, the resolution was in effect and the smoke-filled room finally grew quiet.

That night passed peacefully—but within a couple of days, a few of them started smoking secretly. Soon, secrecy gave way to open smoking, and before long all of them were back to cigarettes. Sadly, some of them remain addicted even today, despite their desire to stop.

Addiction: Never a Choice at First

It’s interesting that no addict ever becomes one intentionally. Almost everyone who falls into addiction once believed the myth: “I am in control. I can quit anytime.”

How little we know about ourselves! How easily we are deceived by our urges.

I still remember a banner at a drug rehabilitation centre that read: “Surrender to Win.”

What Does It Mean to Surrender?

At the rehab, all the inmates had already surrendered their lives to either drugs or alcohol. So, what was this new call to surrender about?

It was not about giving up to substances, but surrendering to God, the One who offers new life, new hope, and a new future.

As the founder of the centre put it:

“He makes chemical-dependent people into Christ-dependent people.”

And it works.

Stories of Transformation

I have seen broken lives restored—people once considered “losers” becoming champions who now help others on their journey to recovery.

One memory stands out: a medical doctor who had to be dragged out of his house, almost half-naked and completely high on drugs. His wife, children, and parents stood by in tears, watching this humiliating scene.

How could someone so educated fall so low? Surely it wasn’t lack of knowledge about drugs. Rather, it was lack of true knowledge of life’s eternal purposes.

God’s Power to Restore

I believe God is deeply interested in restoring every human life. I have witnessed so many amazing changes that I am convinced: the impossible is possible with Him.

This doesn’t dismiss the role of therapy or rehabilitation programs. They are vital. But real change of will, attitude, and heart comes only when there is surrender to God’s supernatural intervention.

The Bible reminds us:

“God does not want anyone to perish, but everyone to come to eternal life.”

Trust the Creator of Impossibilities

With such promises and with countless testimonies of God’s intervention, why do we hesitate to go to Him for answers?

Trust your life to the Creator—He specializes in impossibilities.
